Once again the Abdul Basset discussion hits the headlines. Watching one program last night on BBC I was amazed to find Portillo and a Labour politician using the following references
"That's sometimes what happens when you have some sort of devolved setup. They want to show they have some power"
"I cannot believe the little Scottish Government made this decision all by themselves"
Now you may ask which quote came from which of the main UK parties as to be quite frank they are both so well aligned in terms of their true perspectives around Scotland and its government that you could be forgiven for thinking they were from the same party.
So what's the point you ask ?
If this is truly how Southern politicians view Scotland why do we continue with the illusion that we are in any way significant to them except when it comes to swinging a UK vote their way for Labour ?
Even Mrs T who is absolutely not an active nationalist was outraged by these comments.
If we didn't have oil off our shores I very much doubt whether the powers to be in London would have put up such a fight against an independent Scotland.
If we do as is being forecast and end up putting Labour in the driving seat in Scotland come May 2011 I seriously worry about the consequences for what is still a truly socialist country despite it's neighbour doing its dammedest to be the second USA.
